Rebecca L. Walkowitz

Rebecca L. Walkowitz F’02 has been appointed provost and dean of the faculty at Barnard College, effective June 1, 2024.

Walkowitz currently serves as the Dean of Humanities and a Distinguished Professor in the Department of English in the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University. She is the ACLS Research University Consortium representative for Rutgers University, where she has played an active role, including speaking at the October 2023 consortium meeting in New York about strengthening the position of humanities faculty.

In 2002, Walkowitz was awarded an ACLS/Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Junior Faculty Fellowship through the ACLS Fellowship Program for her project “Cosmopolitan style: English modernisms, cultural theory, and the contemporary novel.”

Rebecca’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and consensus building will be critical to her role in leading and developing our faculty of teacher-scholars. Laura Ann Rosenbury
