The ACLS Community College Humanities Initiative is a suite of fellowship and grant programs, collaborative research, and convenings that are designed to advance the humanities in the community college sector. Starting with a series of consultations and focus groups in 2016 and 2017 with faculty and academic leaders at a range of two-year degree granting institutions, the initiative has supported a range of programs and projects including the Mellon/ACLS Community College Faculty Fellowship (2018-2023); an ongoing collaborative research initiative that considers the humanities landscape in the community college sector; a major convening of community college faculty fellows and learned society leaders in 2023; and exploratory programs designed to enhance access to research resources, infrastructure, and networks.
