ACLS Community College Faculty Research Fellowship | Competition | Wednesday, December 4, 2024 9:00 PM EST |
The American Council of Learned Societies invites applications for the ACLS Community College Faculty Research Fellowships. This one-year pilot program offers scholars in the humanities and interpretive social sciences who teach at two-year degree-granting institutions the opportunity to pursue their research in virtual, hybrid, or on-site residencies at select humanities research centers. Based on feedback from faculty in the community college sector, the awards are designed to be flexible and allow fellows to design a residency that works best for them, from fully on-site to fully remote. This pilot is made possible by the support of the Mellon Foundation.
In 2025, ACLS will offer up to 13 awards for community college faculty to take up two- to three-month fellowships at one of three participating organizations:
The awards offer $3,500 per month in support, plus an additional $1,500 per month to defray costs associated with travel and accommodation at their selected research center. The fellowships may be taken up for any period of two-to-three months between May 1, 2025, and December 31, 2025. Candidates must commit themselves to their proposed award tenure, mode of residence (virtual, in-person, hybrid), and chosen residential center, as detailed in their application. Applicants may select one alternate site in their application should their first choice be unable to accommodate them.
In addition to offering direct support for research, the program will bring fellows and other scholars together with funders and the leadership of research centers and scholarly associations to advise on the development of more inclusive infrastructure for scholars in teaching-intensive faculty roles.
Application Support
Applicants are invited to join us for an informational webinar, and/or for office hours sessions this fall where they can learn more about the program and receive answers to their questions from ACLS program staff.
These resources are intended to support applicants’ final submission to the fellowship competitions. Note that participation in these optional resources is not required to apply for the fellowship, nor does it guarantee the receipt of a fellowship.
ACLS seeks to advance equity, justice, and inclusive excellence in all of our programs and initiatives. The ACLS Community College Faculty Research Fellowships Program especially welcomes applicants from historically underrepresented groups such as Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, Asian American and Pacific Islander, American Indian or Alaskan Native scholars, first generation college graduates, scholars from low-income backgrounds, formerly incarcerated scholars, queer and trans scholars, and scholars with disabilities.
