Developing Contemplative Studies at Brown University

Contemplative Practice Development

Religious Studies/East Asian Studies

This project involves: 1) Publicizing the many courses that currently exist in this area at Brown. 2) Supporting an ongoing Faculty Symposium to foster a community of core faculty in Contemplative Studies and to expand our knowledge of this developing field. 3) Establishing a Contemplative Studies Lecture Series to assist in the development of a course on the foundations of Contemplative Studies. Some of these guest lecturers are neuroscientists and psychologists who are working on the study of contemplative states of mind and their applications in medical and other fields. 4) Establishing a Contemplative Practice grant to support students who wish to attend a contemplative retreat.
