Abstract

Examining art journals produced by the international group now known as the New York Dadaists and journals created by European Dadaists in dialogue with one another, this project describes their significant contributions to American art and to the Dada movement as a whole. Paying special attention to artists who have been ignored in past scholarship, the dissertation analyzes the journal medium as an art form and emphasizes the importance of these largely overlooked publications as vehicles of exchange.
