Launched in 2018 with support from the Mellon Foundation, the Mellon/ACLS Community College Faculty Fellowship program recognized the vital contributions of community college faculty to higher education and the humanities. Over four competition cycles, it supported 110 faculty members from 61 institutions, amplifying the research and teaching expertise of scholars often underrepresented in national fellowships. Designed with flexibility, the program provided resources for research, teaching innovations, and community engagement, while addressing the unique challenges faced by two-year-college faculty.

This volume showcases the research, teaching, and community engagement of fellows from the Mellon/ACLS Community College Faculty Fellowship program. Edited by Carmen Carrasquillo (San Diego Miramar College) and Brian Stipelman (Frederick Community College), the collection highlights the challenges and opportunities faced by two-year-college scholars, documenting how they integrate research into the classroom and serve diverse student communities. More than a record of individual projects, the publication celebrates the vital role of community college faculty as teacher-scholars whose contributions enrich the humanities and higher education at large. This volume documents those conditions and celebrates the innovative approaches of fellows whose work enriches students, communities, and the broader academic landscape.
