Appointed as a Public Scholar to the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art

PhD field of study

PhD, Emory University

Position Description

The Rubin is a global museum dedicated to presenting Himalayan art through exhibitions, participatory experiences, partnerships, and a dynamic digital platform. They bring together diverse perspectives—from Buddhist practitioners to neuroscientists and contemporary artists— to offer insights into the art and its meaning in life today. The Buddhism Public Scholar will contribute to the major educational initiative Project Himalayan Art, which is a fieldwide resource designed to integrate Tibetan, Himalayan, and Inner Asian Art and cultures into college and university teaching/curriculum, with Buddhism being the thread that ties these cultures together.

Tenzin Bhuchung is a scholar of Indo-Tibetan Buddhism whose work bridges Buddhist philosophy, intellectual history, contemplative practice, and visual culture. He received his PhD from Emory University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Princeton University. Drawing on more than two decades of engagement with Tibetan Buddhist traditions, his research emphasizes how philosophy, meditation, ritual, and art intersect within Indo-Tibetan Buddhist traditions as dynamic traditions of interpretation and practice.
