Abstract
This project recovers the visibility post-deportation experiences in El Salvador by collecting and reporting the experiences of individuals with family members who have been deported to El Salvador during the country’s ongoing State of Exception. The two-fold goal is to build a repository of Salvadoran deportation experiences in the midst of the Salvadoran government’s intentional repression of public data about post-deportation life and illuminate the nature and scope of the impact of deportation on family members who remain in the United States. A family communication approach acknowledges that in a context of Salvadoran governmental data obfuscation, family members are the most reliable sources of information about the experiences of their deported loved ones.
