Position Description

With a commitment to preserving, exhibiting, researching, and interpreting art in ways that deepen the collective understanding of Asia and the world, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asia Art brings the arts of Asia into direct dialogue with a collection of nineteenth- and early twentieth century American works, providing an essential platform for creative collaboration and cultural exchange between the United States, Asia, and the Middle East. The Buddhism Public Scholar will expand the current catalogue by creating new entries, exploring perspectives and methods to address diverse publics, and engaging with museum specialists in audience studies and interpretation to help present public programs that inspire connections between historic and contemporary religious practices.
