Abstract
In an era of ecological change, some of the most pressing health threats—from climate change to zoonotic diseases that pass from animals to people—require understanding matters of health, care, and healing as multispecies endeavors. Nowhere is this more evident than in the daily realities of livestock veterinarians, who care for animals and people within industries that are grappling with the social and ecological reverberations of industrialism and liberal governance. Through ethnographic research at veterinary schools, clinics, and dairy farms in California, this project forges collaborations between humanistic and veterinary inquiry to address the structural and lived conditions under which multispecies wellbeing is understood, pursued, and constrained on a changing planet.
