Abstract
The book project funded by this grant analyzes the anti-apartheid movement across the state of Florida to illustrate the growing popular support for said movements amongst students, politicians, and citizen activists, beginning in the 1960s and continuing to the end of the apartheid system in South Africa in the early 1990s. These groups in Florida were representative of a wave of public support spurred on by a global movement that dominated this period and acted as a small but crucial component in the eventual toppling of one of the greatest human rights abusers in history. This book places the protests and demonstrations in Florida in the context of the wider global anti-apartheid movement and illustrate how citizen activism can be a critical force in global change.
