Project

Becoming Reproductive Subjects: Youth Negotiating Gendered Intimacy and Reproductive Governance in Pro-natalist China

Department

Anthropology

Abstract

This project investigates how China's shifting reproductive governance under the Three-Child Policy shapes youth intimacy and life projects. Combining feminist anthropology on reproduction with scholarship on the politics of intimacy, the project examines how young people navigate their intimate lives amid dramatic reproductive policy shifts, and how they envision and produce alternative life trajectories. It also reveals the unintended consequences of the Three-Child Policy.
