Voices of Grambling: Archiving the Long Civil Rights Movement

Department

History

Abstract

“Voices of Grambling” finalizes an original data archive on the long civil rights movement at Grambling State University, engages the public with a community storytelling event, and creates a data management and sharing plan. Undertaking a research trip to Boston, the project investigates the papers of Jane E. Morrow, one of three teachers fired from Grambling State after the 1967 protest for not being “sufficiently loyal.” Second, interviews conducted with student protestors from the 1970s-2000s will comprise season six of the project’s podcast; a public event will share these stories with students, faculty, and community members as well. Finally, the creation of a data management and sharing plan details the ways that the project’s data will be accessible and preserved for future use.
