Abstract
“Iconography of Displacement” examines how cinematic co-productions between France and the Middle East, and specifically with Israel and the Arab world, recreate the classical image of the wanderer to embody contemporary figures of rootlessness in the Mediterranean—the stateless, the migrant, the refugee, and the exiled—and thus question the reified and erased histories of Europe, the Middle East, and the sea at large.
