Abortion Storytelling in Poland: Narratives as Research Material and Activist Tools

Department

Institute of Sociology

Abstract

This project examines abortion narratives in Poland as both valuable qualitative research material and activist tools. Analyzing personal stories offers unique insights into lived reality, dominant discourses, shared beliefs, and individual perspectives. By analyzing abortion narratives presented in public comings-out and abortion comics collected and published by pro-abortion NGOs, the study explores how these accounts construct meaning, negotiate power, and mobilize resistance and solidarity. It demonstrates how storytelling transforms private experiences into collective action, reshaping public debate in a deeply politicized context.
