Joy Connolly on Why Associations Are Key to Higher Education’s Survival in Chronicle of Higher Education

In a February 16, 2021 Letter to the Editor in Chronicle of Higher Education, ACLS President Joy Connolly responded to recent news that due to a budget deficit, SUNY Brockport cut membership dues to the American Council on Education, the Council of Higher Education Accreditation, and the Association of American Colleges and Universities. She emphasized the importance of associations, writing:

The competitive fragmentation of U.S. higher education is part of the reason we face such daunting conditions today — and why we urgently need the networks provided by these associations and other professional groups that unify us beyond campus walls. These important organizations allow faculty and administrators to tackle the many problems facing academia collectively — the essence of the adage that “two heads are better than one.” Joy Connolly, ACLS President
