Abstract

This project traces the literary devices used by early Jewish and Christian authors to negotiate their intellectual inheritance and to construct and legitimate themselves as innovators. It looks at a broad set of sources, such as apocalyptic literature, New Testament apocrypha, and rabbinic works, and reevaluates the representation of received traditions or change of time in them.
