In a September 23, 2022 Inside Higher Education Letter to the Editor, ACLS President Joy Connolly highlights how ACLS and the Mellon Foundation support doctoral students and early-career scholars through programs such as the new Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Innovation Fellowship. She notes that ACLS continues to focus on funding emerging scholars representing diverse backgrounds, fields of study, and institutions in the humanities and interpretive social sciences.

We look forward to offering ACLS fellowship and grant programs intended to usher in what we see as a new academy that welcomes a more diverse professoriate and a wide range of fields of study and approaches to scholarship—key elements to the continued advancement of humanistic knowledge. Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Innovation Fellowship

The Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Innovation Fellowship program is designed to support emerging scholars as they pursue bold and innovative research in the humanities and interpretive social sciences. The fellowships are designed to intervene at the formative stage of dissertation development, before writing is advanced, and provide time and support for emerging scholars’ innovative approaches to dissertation research – practical, trans- or interdisciplinary, collaborative, critical, or methodological.
