I want people to know that Latinos have a deep and important history in the US. We are not newcomers everywhere we appear and have long histories in all regions of the United States and in all parts of American life. I also hope that my research helps people better understand the political diversity of the Latino community.
ACLS celebrates studies of Latin American history and culture and Latinx/a/o/e communities.
We recognize “Latinx/a/o/e” are much-debated terms of identity that can oversimplify the diversity of people and studies from those regions. Our intent is not to be exclusionary or to use these terms interchangeably. Instead, we are observing this month to reflect on and share the scholarly work being produced about these regions and the diaspora.
We invited our global community of fellows and grantees to share links to scholarly research, curricula, published works, or other resources that they authored to share with our larger community that can help in education and reflection on these important areas of study.
