Position Description

Lion’s Roar is an independent non-profit whose mission is to share Buddhist wisdom and practices in order to benefit people’s lives and our society—and to support the continuing development of Buddhism in today’s world. The Buddhism Public Scholar will help shape a rich, accessible member experience across multiple learning pathways. Working with content and marketing teams, the scholar will help shape learning journeys, recommend presenters and resources, and use audience insights to guide program development and refinement. They will also help ensure doctrinal and cultural integrity across offerings, supporting respectful, inclusive, and accurate representations of the dharma.

Alastair Parsons received his PhD in anthropology from University College London. He writes about Buddhism, addiction, selfhood, and how people transform their lives. Alastair’s doctoral research focused on Buddhist practice in Thailand, especially at Wat Thamkrabok, where he lived, practiced, and learned about the singularly distinct monastery’s approaches to Buddhism, addiction therapeutics, and ethical life.
