Mariame Sissoko
Program Associate
Mariame Sissoko (they/them) is the Program Associate for the Mellon Mays Fellowship at the American Council of Learned Societies. Before joining ACLS, Mariame graduated from Barnard College in 2024 and worked at The Posse Foundation. As a Mellon Mays Fellow themselves, their research explored how Black trans and genderqueer individuals navigate intersecting identities and build community through liberatory expression. They are passionate about higher education as both a pathway to opportunity and a vital space for intellectual and social change. Mariame plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Anthropology in the near future.
Outside of work, they enjoy boxing and are an avid reader of speculative fiction, with Octavia Butler as their favorite author.
