The Middle East Studies Association is a private, non-profit, non-political organization of scholars and other persons interested in the study of the Middle East (including North Africa) primarily since the beginning of Islam. Its objectives are (a) to promote high standards of scholarship and instruction, (b) to facilitate communication among scholars through meetings and publications, and c) to promote cooperation among persons and organizations concerned with scholarly study of the Middle East.
