Islamic Rationalism in the Age of Decline

This project studies the social and intellectual history of the School of Khayrabad, a prominent rationalist school of India, as a vista into the fate of rationalism in the post-classical Islamic scholarly tradition. The research concerns the social network analysis and intellectual contributions to logic and theology of those scholars who were encompassed by the Khayrabadi genealogy. It also maps the social, intellectual, and political networks of all Khayrabadi scholars and explores in detail their contributions to Islamic rationalism against the backdrop of that genealogy. This project thus hopes not only to present the detailed intellectual history of a particular school of thought, but also to test facile assertions about the decline of Islamic rationalism.
