Restoring and Realigning Campus Space for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (Host Institution: Coastal Carolina University)

ACLS Sustaining Public Engagement Grants

Marine Science

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Coastal Carolina University (OLLI at CCU) is engaged in efforts to reinstate its campus beyond the borders of the University proper. OLLI at CCU has been a critical nexus between the University humanities resources and the large community of + 50 men and women who live in the area known as the Grand Strand. The mission of reaching these students where they live was ravaged by the pandemic as all external leases maintained by the University were cancelled. The funds from the grant will be used to reestablish the OLLI at CCU presence in those communities where it has had an historic impact in educating senior men and women who are curious and conscientious participants in American society. In addition, the grant is being used to foster a more inclusive membership as we partner with members of the community who represent underserved populations and create scholarships to pay membership and course fees. The community partners assist in identifying locations that effectively facilitate broadening the membership profile.
