John F. Kutsko has served as executive director of the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL) since 2010. He earned a PhD in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from Harvard University (1997) and an MA from the Department of Near Eastern Studies at the University of Michigan. He is also an affiliate professor of biblical studies at the Candler School of Theology, Emory University. Before joining SBL, he was an associate publisher at Abingdon Press. As part of his responsibilities for SBL, Kutsko received a grant to explore the establishment of an international and independent network of scholars of the Qur’an, which led to the formation of the International Qur’anic Studies Association in 2014. Kutsko is a contributing editor of The SBL Handbook of Style (Hendrickson, 1999) and directed its second edition (SBL Press, 2014). He is published in The Book of Ezekiel: Theological and Anthropological Perspectives ( SBL Press, 2000), The Bible in Political Debate (Bloomsbury/T&T Clark, 2016), and The Bible in American Life (Oxford University Press, 2016). He is the author of Between Heaven and Earth: Divine Presence and Absence in the Book of Ezekiel (Eisenbrauns, 2000) and coeditor of The King James Version at 400 (SBL Press, 2013). He serves on the editorial advisory board of the Journal of General Education.
