Frances Daly Fergusson is president emeritus of Vassar College, where she served from 1986-2006.  She previously was provost and vice president for academic affairs at Bucknell University.

Fergusson was on the board of Overseers of Harvard from 2002-08 and president of the board in her final year.  She chaired the Visiting Committee to the Harvard Libraries for a decade and also served with the Harvard Corporation on its Governance Review and Presidential Seach Committees.  She is currently on the boards of Second Stage Theatre, The School of American Ballet, and The Sarasota Opera, and on the Trust of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.  Previously, she has served on the boards of The Getty Trust, the Ringling Museum, The National Humanities Center, The Mayo Clinic (chair, 1998-2002), and The Ford Foundation.  In the corporate world, she was on the boards of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer, and Mattel.

A graduate of Wellesley College, Fergusson earned her Ph.D. in art history at Harvard.  She has been a National Endowment for the Humanities fellow, a Radcliffe Institute Fellow and a Danforth Associate.  She is the recipient of the Eleanor Roosevelt at Val-Kill medal, the Centennial Medal of the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Harvard Medal for outstanding service to the University.  She holds honorary doctorates from the University of London, Bard College and the University of Hartford.  Fergusson has published widely in her academic speciality, architectural history, and is the recipient of the Founders' Award of the Society of Architectural Historians for her work on the Karlskirche in Vienna.  Fergusson was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2002.
