The American National Biography (ANB) is the premier biographical work on people who have influenced and shaped American history and culture. It is the first biographical resources of this scope to be published in more than 60 years, succeeding the venerable Dictionary of American Biography, also sponsored by ACLS.
The ANB was published by Oxford University Press in 24 volumes in 1999. Its online counterpart, ANB Online, is a regularly updated resource currently offering portraits of over 18,700 biographies, including the 17,435 of the print edition.
