ACLS Mourns the Loss of Carl E. Schorske
We are saddened to learn of the passing of Carl E. Schorske, a preeminent scholar and professor of cultural history. His collection of essays, Fin-de-Siècle Vienna: Politics and Culture, won the 1981 Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction and, in that same year, he was among the first class of recipients of a MacArthur "genius" award.
In his Charles Homer Haskins Lecture, delivered at the 1987 ACLS Annual Meeting, Professor Schorske reflected upon his own career as well as the relationship among academic, cultural, and political developments since the 1930s. The lecture is available here.
